TATAMY, Pa. - Just in time for holiday gatherings, a new business is dishing out fresh pies, pastries and other tasty treats in Northampton County.
Bread & Honey Bakery, offering made-on-site bread, cookies, croissants and more, opened a few weeks ago at 13 Bushkill St. in Tatamy.
The space previously housed two other bakers’ businesses: Matty’s Marvelous Makery, run by Matthew Robles; and Elite Sweets by Nicole, run by Nicole Amey.
Bread & Honey owner Alex Stojanovic of Pohatcong Township took over the space about a month ago, purchasing the ovens and other equipment from Amey to make his own distinct treats.
“We are excited to be open and making delicious food for the community, and I think the community is happy that we are here as well,” Stojanovic said. “All of our customers have been very friendly and welcoming.”
Stojanovic, a Serbian native who moved to the United States in 1999, studied hotel management in Europe before graduating from the French Culinary Institute in New York.
He previously owned and operated Fresh Tortillas, a Phillipsburg area restaurant offering Tex-Mex cuisine, which he sold about two years ago.
At Bread & Honey, Stojanovic is offering freshly baked breads and rolls such as French baguettes, Italian bread, sourdough bread, slider rolls, brioche loafs and rye bread. Tomato pie is also available.
Some selections rotate, with more unique offerings including anchovy and onion focaccia and brioche buns filled with spinach, artichoke and cheese.
A wide variety of sweet treats include options such as doughnuts, eclairs, cupcakes, muffins, turnovers, cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, biscotti and scones.
“We also offer homemade cannolis and tiramisu, along with pies like pecan, pumpkin, apple and blueberry,” Stojanovic said.
In addition to baked goods, Stojanovic is making rotating soups, with this past week’s selection being chicken and mushroom. He plans to offer hot and cold sandwiches beginning in the new year.
“We want to offer bread and everything that goes with bread,” Stojanovic said.
“So, we started with soups, and we plan to introduce sandwiches in January. I’m planning to do some really unique sandwiches, including a goulash sandwich. Goulash is a Hungarian beef stew, made with paprika. So, I’m going to make sure the bread is nice and hearty to prevent the goulash from seeping into it.”
Bread & Honey, which also offers coffee and other drinks, accepts custom orders – including those for cakes and large orders of cookies, cupcakes and other treats – with at least 48 hours' notice.
The bakery is open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Info: 610-438-1363; Bread and Honey Bakery on Facebook.
