Actor Shannen Doherty, best known for her role as Brenda in the teen soap opera Beverley Hills 90210, has revealed that her stage 4 breast cancer has spread to her bones.

The 52-year-old opened up about the latest development in an interview with People and spoke about how she's determined to keep moving forward with her life.

"I don't want to die," Doherty said.

"I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving.

"I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I'm just not — I'm not done."

Difficult battle with cancer

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.

She had a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy and had been in remission from 2017.

But in 2020, she revealed on Good Morning America the cancer had returned as metastatic stage 4 breast cancer, meaning it had spread to other parts of her body beyond the original source of the tumour.

And in June 2023, Doherty wrote in an Instagram post the cancer had spread to her brain and that she had undergone surgery five months earlier to remove a brain tumour.

She named it Bob.

Since her diagnosis, she has made a point of showing the stark reality of the disease in hopes her experience will help others.

"My hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like," she said.

The actress will discuss more about her diagnosis on her new memoir podcast, Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, dropping December 6 on iHeartRadio.

'Grateful I get to be here'

Given the challenges, Doherty is most driven by her desire to prove she can still work despite her diagnosis.

"People just assume that it means you can't walk, you can't eat, you can't work," she told People.

"We're vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life.

"We are people who want to work and embrace life and keep moving forward."

For those wondering how her treatment is working, Doherty provided a positive update.

"We're on a good regimen now and it's working well for me, day by day, month by month, year by year," she said.
