WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAW) - The 22nd Annual Shooting for a Cure pool tournament is taking place Saturday and Sunday at Layla’s Pub. The 2-day pool tournament raises money for breast cancer research at the Marshfield Clinic. The tournament has raised $440,000 over the years. This year, event organizers hope to raise $20,000.
“It’s a pool tournament with some wonderful ladies and a lot of volunteers that come together and they raise money for Marshfield Research department,” said Doris Laskowski, Shooting for a Cure tournament director.
128 women and 32 men joined in on the Shooting for a Cure pool tournament.
“Well I think raising money for any cancer is important regardless of what it is,” said Laskowski, “but breast cancer seems to affect more families and sisters, daughters, aunts, you know there are men that get breast cancer.”
The money raised from the tournament will be used by the Marshfield Clinic to give patients with breast cancer a better diagnosis and treatment plan.
“They come in, they have fun, they support each other and you don’t find that very often. It’s not a cutthroat tournament. There are girls who don’t know which end of the pool stick to shoot with and there are other girls who are great shooters overall,” said Laskowski.
The tournament is open to amateurs and experienced pool players.
