FANWOOD, NJ -- And she ran happily ever after.
That's one of the visuals in a video for the Eye of The Survivor 2021 breast cancer fundraising calendar that features Fanwood resident Jacqui Gross as a model. The inspirational calendar is dedicated to those who have battled breast cancer and survived. It features a survivor each month who has volunteered his or her story to spread awareness to others.
All the proceeds from the sales of the 2021 Eye of the Survivor calendar go directly to AAngelsNJ, a Montclair-based breast cancer awareness, education, and resource non-profit organization. Its mission is to serve and provide resources to under served and under insured individuals and families. AAngelsNJ is committed to educating and navigating people about Preventive Care, Pre- and Post-Breast Cancer diagnoses and all aspects of Breast Health.
Calendar founder and photographer, Reggy Stainfil, is inspired by the strength of these survivors. They inspire him to capture humanity’s resilience against potentially despairing health crisis. He believes the survivor calendars (and stories!) will stimulate discussion, increase awareness, educate, and, of course, inspire.
My wish for others is that you allow yourself to heal and will allow yourself to dig deep to get in touch with your emotions, find and build your support systems, and allow others to help. - Jacqui Gross
"I am humbled to be included in this amazing group of survivors," said Jacqui, a teacher and a curriculum coach who works in Jersey City. "They are all so beautiful. We are all warriors!"
The mother of two boys recently marked the fifth anniversary of her cancer diagnosis and was encouraged to participate in the calendar by a co-worker who is also a breast cancer survivor.
"The photographer asked what I like to do; I like to run, and Disney makes me happy. I was supposed to run the Princess 10K, so I suggested we go to the Disney Store for the shoot," she said.
The model has not yet seen the final product, which went on sale this week. However, she saw the pictures when they were taken and approved them.
"It was honor to be involved," she said.
