Recipe: Silver Dollar City's famous cinnamon bread - Branson Christmas

adaapablogsi.blogspot.com

Alongside succotash and funnel cakes, cinnamon bread is one of the most popular treats found at Silver Dollar City (SDC). It’s a cross between monkey bread and cinnamon rolls, and is a perfect warm snack to enjoy anytime of year, but the smells and flavors especially remind us of the holidays.

Originally served at Sullivan’s Mill in Midtown, the park’s famous cinnamon bread is now baked fresh daily at Clara Belle’s, its own dedicated shop in the new Rivertown area. In addition to the classic cinnamon and sugar flavor, you can also find new varieties like apple cinnamon, peach cinnamon, and caramel and chocolate.

If you can’t make it to Silver Dollar City yourself (or you crave it even more during the cold winter months when the park is closed), we did find a few recipes to help you make your own at home.

The recipes are inspired by the cinnamon bread at Dollywood, which is essentially the same since Dollywood and SDC have the same owners.

The easiest version of the recipe (featured below) uses frozen bread dough loaves, which can be found at most retailers (example here). But if you prefer to make the dough yourself, check out Travel and Leisure’s recipe for Dollywood Cinnamon Bread.

Easy SDC Cinnamon Bread Recipe

Makes two loaves.

Bread Ingredients

  • 1 (1-pound) loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 4 Tablespoons melted butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons cinnamon
  • Cooking spray or oil

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 3 to 5 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pinch of salt

Directions

Coat two loaf pans with cooking spray or oil. Combine the cinnamon and sugars in a separate bowl.

Cut thawed dough into two pieces lengthwise. Then make four crosswise slits in each piece, but don’t cut all the way through. Brush the loaves with the melted butter and roll each loaf in the cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Place loaves in oiled pans and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.

Heat oven to 300 degrees (F) and bake bread for 30-35 minutes, turning once about halfway through. The top should be golden brown, but be careful not to overbake.

For the glaze, whisk together all ingredients until smooth. Transfer the loaves from pans to a cooling rack and drizzle with glaze while still warm.

Enjoy warm with a hot cup of coffee!

Hallmark Channel made their own version of this on an episode of Home & Family, and you can check out the video here.
