From grilled cheese and tomato soup to bacon mac & cheese and even fried pickles, Lay’s is no stranger to making fun, limited-time potato chip flavors.
One I haven’t been able to forget, however, is the one inspired by cheesy garlic bread, which is finally returning after an eight-year hiatus! The flavor first appeared on store shelves in 2013 as part of Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest, where fans suggested their own chip flavors. The final three finalists were Sriracha, Cheesy Garlic Bread and Chicken & Waffles, but in the end, Cheesy Garlic Bread came out on top.
It was only available for a limited time, however, and has been off store shelves for nearly a decade. While they are back for a limited time this summer, a Lay’s rep confirmed to Simplemost that they are only available at Sam’s Club. A 15.25-ounce bag is $3.49, but you will also need a Sam’s Club membership to get your mitts on them.
These aren’t the only fun chips from Lay’s available for a limited time this summer. The brand also released three brand new flavors: Chile Mango, Wavy Jerk Chicken and Summer BLT. These flavors are available at retailers nationwide for $3.79 a bag, while supplies last.
If you like hot chips, Wavy Jerk Chicken is spicy, sweet and smoky, while Chile Mango has the fruity flavor of mango, plus the spice and tang of chile peppers.
Inspired by the summertime picnic classic, the Summer BLT chip has flavors of lettuce and tomato wrapped in bacon. Serve the chips at a barbecue or alongside an actual BLT and you’re in for a whole lot of bacony goodness.
While there doesn’t appear to be any other type of garlic bread-flavored potato chips on the market, a few brands do have garlic-flavored chips that may satisfy your craving once Lay’s inevitably pulls these from shelves again.
Target’s Good & Gather line has parmesan garlic kettle chips, as does Kettle Brand. Kettle’s parmesan garlic chips are new and the brand says they serve as a reminder that “cheesy garlic bread is only one way to get your cheese and garlic fix.”
Word to the wise: After you’re done killing a bag of garlicky chips, you might want to invest in a high-powered electric toothbrush.
