MUSCATINE, Iowa–Each year, the Rose Bowl in Muscatine supports local high school bowlers by providing them with free lane usage any time and soft drinks. This summer, bowlers from Louisa-Muscatine and Muscatine High Schools decided to thank the Rose Bowl for everything they do for them and help them support one of their favorite causes, breast cancer awareness, with several projects.
Recently, some of the high school bowlers noticed that the Rose Bowl parking lot needed re-striping. Knowing that the Rose Bowl promotes breast cancer awareness through their annual Bowling for Boobies event, the students decided to make the new lines pink, similar to those at Sal Vitale’s on Park Avenue. With paint and supplies donated by Exit Realty Group, the students completely redid the parking lot.
The bowlers felt excited about giving to the bowling alley they spend so much time at and helping them promote a good cause. “I am hoping that this will bring awareness to breast cancer and also bring a spotlight to the bowling alley because they do so much for us,” said Jersey, one of the bowlers.
“We spend a lot of our time here anyways and it will be nice to see the hard work we are putting in,” added Abby, a second bowler.
“I was excited to see the team together again and wanted to be a part of this,” chimed in Arianna, another bowler.
Exit Realty also felt proud to contribute to the project and help the Rose Bowl to continue to raise breast cancer awareness. “We are a big family down here–it is not just bowling, we support each other in everything we do in life,” shared Cathy Everett of Exit Realty. “We always try to make Bowling for Boobies a little better every year and this year it was important to us to make it visual.”
Wanting to go beyond just updating the parking lot, the L&M and Muscatine bowling teams also created a new breast cancer awareness T-shirt and will donate $2 from each shirt sold to Bowling for Boobies. Interest in this effort has already proved high, as one anonymous donor has already begun contributing to this fundraising effort.
At the Rose Bowl, staff could not feel any better about the help they received from the bowling teams and the publicity it has brought to Bowling for Boobies. “Thank you to the volunteers for doing all this work and for raising awareness for breast cancer,” stated Rose Bowl manager Troy. “It is an important cause at the bowling alley.” If you would like to learn more about supporting Bowling for Boobies or making a donation, please contact the Rose Bowl at (563) 263-0770.
