The 8th Annual Georgetown Breast Cancer Awareness Car, Truck, Motorcycle, and Tractor Show has been canceled.
After much discussion and research in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show committee members feel is it the right and responsible decision to cancel this year’s car show that was scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 18.
The committee invites community members and local businesses to give in the spirit with which they have so generously supported the car show over the past seven years. The good news is that individuals can still make a difference at a time when support is especially needed.
The nonprofit Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition relies on the support of the car show and other fundraisers that have also been canceled or postponed to fund its breast cancer support programs in Sussex County.
Breast cancer diagnoses in local communities have not stopped, and neither have the coalition’s efforts to deliver programs and services to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer, work with those at risk for the disease, facilitate annual screenings, and provide support for those diagnosed with breast cancer throughout their journey.
Last year, the event was able to donate $18,587 to the coalition; since 2013, it has donated more than $60,000 to support the work of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Sussex County.
From the beginning, coalition representatives were on site annually delivering their messages about breast health awareness. As a result, it has supported 484 Sussex County women who faced a breast cancer diagnosis.
