In a new episode of the podcast, Sarah Ferguson discussed the impact her diagnosis has had on those around her, admitting it was ‘scary’ for any family member. ‘I think it’s scary for any family member out there, you really start to look at your own demise. It’s a wake up call, and you think: “How am I going to deal with this?”’

The mother-of-two revealed Princess Beatrice, her eldest daughter, had helped her choose her outfit for the podcast recording (which is also filmed). On her way out of the door, she was struck by an overwhelming feeling of love for her first-born child. ‘Today before I came and did the podcast, I was in the car coming, and I said, "No can we turn around?",’ she said. ‘I went back in and hugged Beatrice. I really wanted to. Just to be grateful. And she said, “Mum I thought you left”. And I said: “Thank you.”’

Sarah Ferguson is famously close to her daughters and sons-in-law. She is also a hands-on grandmother to August and Ernest Brooksbank, and Wolfie and Sienna Mapelli Mozzi. The entire family have reportedly joined friends and other loved ones in rallying around the duchess in her hour of need. A Buckingham Palace source confirmed that the King had also written to his former sister-in-law, sending his sincere wishes for a speedy recovery.

‘Fergie’, as she is affectionately known, has said she wants to speak publicly about her ordeal because she wants to encourage others to have regular screenings and be aware of symptoms.
