COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — It may have just opened, but a local car wash is already doing good in the local community. It’s helping a widower fulfill a promise he made to his wife, and that promise is benefiting others.
The new Quick Quack Car Wash at Barnes Rd. and Powers Blvd. held a fundraiser Tuesday for the Becky Baker Foundation.
The car wash gave customers free washes and an opportunity to make donations to the foundation. All of the money is going to pay for free mammograms and thermograms for Colorado Springs women.
The foundation was started by Rick Baker. It’s named after his late wife Becky.
“My wife, Becky Baker, three years ago passed away from breast cancer,” Baker said.
“And one of the last things she said to me was, ‘Rick, I'm just sorry that no one will remember my name,’ and I said ‘You know what Becky, I promise you no one will ever forget your name.’”
In all, the Quick Quack Car Wash raised $3,000 during Tuesday's fundraiser, and every penny will go towards breast cancer prevention.
“The best way to beat breast cancer is to not get it, and that's what the Becky Baker Foundation is all about,” Baker said.
Amaris Garcia with Quick Quack Car Wash said every time they host a grand opening, they host a fundraiser for a nonprofit, individual or family.
“This year we selected the Becky Baker Foundation,” Garcia said. “We're super excited, because this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
