Remembering the day that I was diagnosed with breast cancer is like remembering someone I used to know. The version of me that nodded calmly as a doctor conveyed the bad news in 2021 was a different person. For a start she had a glorious head of hair and two great boobs —which I totally took for granted.

Treatment for my stage 3, grade 3 triple-negative breast cancer at age 40 was brutal. Five months of chemotherapy, followed by mastectomy surgery and reconstruction, then 15 rounds of radiotherapy and, to top it off, another six months of adjuvant chemo.

I was lucky to be diagnosed in time for treatment to be curative, and am now cancer-free. But my body and mind have been through the
