PRINCE FREDERICK, Maryland -- COVID-19 restrictions didn't stop supporters from 13 states from raising more than $18,000 to support breast cancer patients in Calvert County.
The 11th Annual CalvertHealth Run/Walk was held virtually this year. Participants walked or ran in their own neighborhoods or parks and shared their journey on social media. There were 315 participants from 13 states.
Even thought they were unable to run together, runners and walkers were united in their mission to help others. CalvertHealth Vice President and Administrator for Oncology Services Kasia Sweeney said, “This event is really about people – people coming together in support of family and friends who have bravely faced a cancer journey.”
The annual 5K raises money for Sheldon E. Goldberg Center for Breast Care which comprehensive and coordinated care-from outreach and screening to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
Theresa Johnson, vice president of brand strategy and philanthropy for CalvertHealth thanked participants for sharing their pictures and videos on social media. “We may not have been together physically, but we were together in spirit.”
