FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine (WAGM) - The fort Fairfield Police Department is teaming up with two organizations to raise money for and awareness about breast cancer.
The Pink Patch Project through the Fort Fairfield PD raises money for two local organizations.
“One is Pink Aroostook which takes and helps citizens directly in Aroostook County, and then of course the Jefferson Cary Mammography Fund which will help them upgrade their equipment.”
Tamra Kilcollins, Executive Director of the Jefferson Cary Foundation says, money raised will benefit everyone.
“Any new upgrade of equipment is going to benefit our patients and their families and early screening for breast cancer is very important and mammograms are very important for women to get every year.”
Bethany Zell of Pink Aroostook says, having funds available for patients in need is crucial.
“Having the funds close to home that we can then provide directly to the people who need it most, it’s life changing for some of these folks who would have to wait for treatments, postpone treatments or worry about the aftermath of the financial burden that comes from them.”
Chief Newell says this project is about more than just a patch.
“I lost my mother to cancer back in 2016. One of the contributing factors was breast cancer… so this project is something that is really close and near and dear to me. I know that there was several issues that she had to deal with so I know what some of these folks are going through personally, and I want to be able to make sure that we can contribute back to our citizens, back to the folks that are dealing with this awful disease and be able to make their lives a little better.”
Chief Newell adds that patches can be purchased right here at the Fort Fairfield Town office for $10 during normal business hours. He also adds that patches can be purchased with a check made payable to the Town of Fort Fairfield.
