CHICAGO — The Beverly Breast Cancer Walk, the Mother's Day neighborhood tradition that for the past 21 years has raised money for the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at OSF Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, will go virtual in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The walk, which traditionally begins and ends at Ridge Park and moves through several neighborhood streets, typically draws several thousand people to the Beverly on Mother's Day morning.
"The virtual walk is a fun, interactive way to get up and move safely during the coronavirus pandemic while still honoring and supporting our friends, family and all those who have or are currently facing the fight against breast cancer," the website for the Breast Cancer Walk states.

Participants are encouraged to still partake in a 3-mile walk on Sunday, May 10 to "support the fighters, admire the survivors, honor the taken and never give up hope."
"Whether you choose to walk around your house, on a treadmill, in your driveway or in your neighborhood, we encourage you to register for this year's Beverly Breast Cancer Virtual Walk," the website states. "Then on walk day, we'll cheer each other on through social media as we do our own virtual steps."
To take part in the social media fun, take a picture of yourself walking and post it to the OSF Beverly Breast Cancer Virtual Walk Facebook page, tag it with #OSFBBCW and share the names of those who you walk for or the reason why you walk.
Last year, the walk raised more than $400,000 for the breast center at Little Company of Mary. So far in 2020, the virtual version had raised $169,097 as of May 6.
Maureen Shannon is the top individual fundraiser so far this year, bringing in $5,935 as of that date. The top team, Bosom Buddies, has raised $6,540.
