On this Mother's Day, the Polashenski family took a hike in the woods in Victor.
"It's nice. We're doing the Earth is Our Mother trail, which seemed fitting on Mother's Day. I'm here with my mom and my three daughters," said Pam Polashenski.
The Polashenki's take part in this walk every year to spend time as a family, but also to support a great cause. On this Mother's Day weekend, the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester had their 19th Pink Ribbon Walk and Run fundraiser. More than 1,000 people signed up for the virtual event. Pam is a breast cancer survivor who is thankful for the coalition's support.
"I did all my chemo. I did all my radiation. I finished my treatment and had tremendous anxiety, that's when I got connected with the Breast Cancer Coalition. It was after I completed my treatment," said Pam Polashenski.
For Pam's family, they wanted to be by her side to support her with her fight against breast cancer.
"To be here to support my mom, and being outside is one of my favorite things to do, so to be able to spend this time together on Mother's Day and hike, run, walk, whatever it's really really special," said Maya Polashenski, Pam's daughter.
"Cancer is not easy for anyone. I think the mental and emotional side effects afterwards are as harrowing as treatment. And this community brought her happiness and light," said Anastasia, Polashenski.
Going forward, the Polashenkis are committed to supporting Pam and other breast cancer survivors.
