The craft of bread-making skyrocketed during the initial lockdown in 2020. In fact, the trend became so popular that King Arthur claimed its sales skyrocketed by 2,000% that March, and by May, there was even a flour shortage.

If baking bread became one of your hobbies, you’ll be glad to hear about Le Creuset’s latest launch: the Bread Oven.

Le Creuset’s cast-iron bread oven looks a little like an upside-down Dutch oven. It has a flat, cast-iron base with a handle on either side and a dome-shaped lid featuring the brand’s signature metal knobs and ombré coloring.

Like most of Le Creuset’s colorful cookware, the enameled cast iron ensures even heat distribution, while the lid traps and circulates steam to help your bread rise, retain moisture and gain flavor.

You can get the Le Creuset Bread Oven for $290 in eight of the cookware brand’s most popular colors, including Marseille, Flame and White.

Personally, I never tried making my own bread during quarantine. In fact, I’ve never tried making it ever in my life. I live in New York City above a Whole Foods and next door to a Le Pain Quotidien, so I have easy access to any kind of bread, any time. However, I recently gave it a shot with a recipe for a no-knead rye bread by Joy the Baker using the Le Creuset Bread Oven.

I’m happy to report that the results were absolutely stunning. My bread came out with a perfectly crispy crust and moist center. In fact, the bottom of the loaf was especially cute — it had Le Creuset’s signature three rings imprinted into the bottom, thanks to the bread oven’s base.

I now feel obligated to add bread-making to my Sunday schedule (or at least try making it once a month). I want to experiment with flavors, flours, seasonings and more. Bread is actually one of my main food groups, so it only makes sense.

The fact is, making your own bread at home is relatively easy, especially with the Le Creuset Bread Oven. The process just takes a lot of time and patience for the bread to proof, rise, bake and cool. However, you can do plenty of other things while you wait (like go to Whole Foods to get some cheese and meats for a tasty sandwich).
