WASHINGTON — The average price paid for white pan bread increased 2.3¢ in December, following a gain of 1.2¢ in November, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor. The price of whole wheat bread, meanwhile, fell 0.4¢ per lb.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 153.8¢, up 2.3¢ per lb from November and up 17.5¢ from December 2019.
At 220.3¢ per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 0.4¢ per lb from November but up 23.9¢ per lb from December 2019.
The national average price of family flour in December was 45¢, up 0.5¢ from November and up 2.1¢ from a year ago.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in December was 131.3¢ per lb, up 5.1¢ from November and up 12.4¢ from December 2019. Chocolate chip cookies were 379.3¢ per lb, up 2.6¢ from November and up 20.9¢ from December 2019.
The national average price of white long-grain rice in December was 78.9¢, down 0.2¢ from November but up 7.5¢ from December 2019.
