FREMONT COUNTY, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

In Fremont county, no bread lines are needed at Hudson Town Hall, free food is made available at almost anytime, and although many town halls are simply the home for all things political, the town of Hudson is becoming known as a place where if you need a little extra food to eat, you can come and pick some up, no questions asked. Mayor of Hudson, Mike Anderson, stated, “What I really like is this is pure volunteerism. This is where people go out and help other people, and there’s no cost. There’s no cost to the people that we help, there’s no cost for getting the bread or anything like that, so its a good, good thing.”

Louise Barker volunteers her time to pick up the food from the Set Free Church in Riverton, and delivers it to town hall, and around the county as she receives requests. “I know what it’s like to need, I was a single mom raising two children, we didn’t have anything to help,” emphasized Barker. She and her husband have since been delivering food around the county for about two years, using her own resources, and thankful to do it.

The Town of Hudson realized the need to have a central location for people to consistently come for food if they need it, and have been housing the food there for about four years, but lately there has been a greater need. “One lady that comes in every week from Arapahoe or Shoshoni that is feeding three or four kids, she’s a grandma and this helps her a lot,” stated Mayor Anderson.

Barker said that near the end of the month sometimes she wonders how she’ll make the deliveries and where the gas money will come from, but she says it always works out. “All of a sudden, the Lord sets up someone to give us a donation, and it’s enough to fill the tank up,” emphasized Barker.

Town Hall just set up a donation bucket for Louise and her food deliveries. “It’s really important to the community because they see what’s going on, and it has a synergistic effect where other people will start doing things for other people,” added Mayor Anderson.

Hudson town hall is open Monday through Thursday, but even if they’re closed, they often leave a table of bread out front.
