Balthazar Now Delivers Its Breads - The New York Times

Back in 2000, Keith McNally’s SoHo brasserie Balthazar outgrew the kitchen used by its bakery downstairs. So Paula Oland, who ran it, packed up her proofing baskets and rolling pins and headed to a building in Englewood, N.J., to expand its wholesale division, which also sold retail items to walk-in customers. The pandemic has caused disruptions with regular clients, so the bakery has started sending bright yellow trucks to addresses in Manhattan for a $7.50 fee. There are breads galore, including a fragrant potato-onion batard ($4.50). Cakes and pastries include a moist almond and plum cake ($24.05). But if you buy nothing else, try the earthy little buckwheat and fig bouchon cake ($3.55).

Balthazar Bakery, 214 South Dean Street (West Forest Avenue), Englewood, N.J., 201-503-9717, balthazarbakery.com/retail.
