UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The head of the U.N. food agency says he’s “very, very concerned” Lebanon will run out of bread in about 2 ½ weeks because 85% of its grain comes through Beirut’s port that was devastated in last week’s explosion. However, David Beasley says he believes an area of the port can be made operational in two to three weeks. Beasley is in Beirut assessing the damage in the wake of the chemical blast. He told a virtual U.N. briefing on the humanitarian situation following the explosion that “at the devastated site, we found a footprint that we can operate on a temporary basis.” He urged donors “to step up now.”
