Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the CARE Project Inc., a Riverside-based nonprofit organization that helps breast cancer patients, will not be able to hold its annual fundraising gala this fall.
In place of the gala, the organization is raising funds through sales of its recently published book, “Handle With Care, Or Your Breast Cancer Support Group in a Book” by Carrie Madrid, a breast cancer survivor and co-founder and president of the CARE Project, and Margaret Lesh, a two-time breast cancer survivor and author of “Let Me Get This Off My Chest.”
Paperback copies of the book cost $14.99. All proceeds from sales of the book will go to the CARE Project Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, according to a news release.
The CARE Project, which is run by volunteers, provides emotional and financial support for male and female breast cancer patients. Financial support can include help with utility payments, rent, grocers and copays.
