2022 LA TAQ Christmas Invite
TNT Swimming teammates Levenia Sim and Megan Corcoran put on some exceptional performances earlier this month at the TAQ Christmas Invite in Baton Rouge, L.A., both establishing swims that would’ve ranked highly at the Winter Junior Championships.
Opting out of competing at Winter Juniors – East, Sim rocketed to a season-best time of 51.74 in the girls’ 100 backstroke, a clocking that would’ve finished third in the final in Greensboro.
The 16-year-old owns a personal best time of 51.03 in the event, which stands as the girls’ 13-14 National Age Group Record. Sim currently ranks ninth all-time among 15-16s, having gone 51.45 at the 2022 NCSA Spring Championships in March.
Sim also swam her way to a monstrous best time by two seconds in the 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:01.15 to move into 72nd all-time in the 15-16 age group. The time also would’ve made the final and placed seventh at Winter Juniors.
Her previous best, set in February 2021, stood at 1:03.69.
Sim also logged a noteworthy time of 1:57.37 in the 200 back, with her personal best sitting at 1:53.53 from the 2022 NCSAs. She added best times in the 200 breast (2:18.26) and 400 IM (4:21.73) at the meet.
Corcoran, 17, dropped three seconds to earn her first Winter Junior cut in the girls’ 200 butterfly, touching in 1:59.22 to down her previous best of 2:02.88 set in November. The time would’ve placed Corcoran in a tie for sixth at Winter Juniors – East.
Corcoran also registered new best times in the 50 free (24.62) and 100 free (52.89).
Sims’ older sister, Letitia Sim, is currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan and represents the Philippines internationally, including placing 14th in the women’s 200 breast and 18th in the 200 IM at the Short Course World Championships last week.
Among the top performers on the boys’ side was Tiger Aquatics’ Jason Ge, 17, who swam to a new best time of 2:05.74 in the 200 breaststroke.
