TikTok user @AsapSCIENCE posted a short video showing how he cuts a loaf of banana bread to maintain its freshness and it's pretty genius. The tip isn't entirely new—people have been slicing baked goods down the middle for years—but the clip demonstrates exactly how to do it properly.

You'll want to slice the loaf in the middle, which, as a bonus, will get you a nice warm and moist piece to enjoy right away. Once you grab your slice, you can then push the ends of the dessert back together so the cut pieces are facing each other. "Instead of having surface area exposed now they're nice and covered and still gonna be moist when we come back later," @AsapSCIENCE explained in the video.
It makes sense! When you cut the end of your baked goods off for that first slice, after a few hours, the exposed inside gets a little stale. I'm guilty of cutting that stale sliver off a bit before grabbing my second serving (or third....or fourth!), so this strategy helps lessen food waste and gets you the most out of your labor of love. It was only a matter of time until banana bread would come back around yet again.
