ALBANY — The Irish American Heritage Museum will host its annual Irish soda bread bake-off on Saturday, March 5.
Intended for nonprofessional cooks and bakers, the competition will have prizes in two categories: traditional white flour and family recipe/not strictly traditional. (True soda bread contains only four ingredients: flour, salt, sour milk or buttermilk and baking soda.)
Submission is from noon to 1 p.m. on March 5, with results at 3 p.m. Participants should bring two identical loaves for each category entered to the museum, located at located at the Discover Albany Visitors Center at Quackenbush Square, on Broadway at the foot of Clinton Avenue. One loaf is for display, the other for judges to examine and taste. Only one recipe may be submitted per entrant per category, but an entrant may compete in both categories. Entries cost $10 apiece.
The top three winners in each category will receive prizes.
