HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -- During Breast Cancer Awareness Month doctors are urging women to schedule not only breast exams, but also cervical exams.
The Hannibal Northeast Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is offering low-cost breast and cervical examinations for low-income women.
NECAC Spokesman Brent Engel said breast and cervical cancer can spread very quickly, so early detection is important.
"It's very important to get a screening, come in, and schedule an exam, so that we can make sure that you're healthy," he said. "Because I know it sounds dramatic but these diseases kill a lot of women."
Engel said more than 43,000 American women will die of breast cancer this year.
